Testimonials

When Bob was graduating from his high school, my husband and I were deeply concerned on how we could help Bob find the nurturing educational and social environment he had in high school. We looked at all the adult programs available and visited them. His teacher recommended HISRA’s new adult program. We enrolled Bob and felt that HISRA was the best program.

HISRA’s FOCUS program incorporates life skills with fun recreational activities.  Amy and Jessica always have great trips planned. The entire staff at HISRA are extremely caring, professional, and nurturing under the amazing leadership of Katie. I went to a pottery place that FOCUS goes to by myself. The owner without any inquiry told me how wonderful and caring each and every staff member treats our children.

Bob has also made wonderful friendships with the other participants at FOCUS. They are all so happy to be there. It’s tangible the minute you walk through the doors and greet everyone.

My whole family feels truly blessed to have a program for Bob that truly cares and enriches his life! Thank you to everyone there both past and present for your sincere kindness and professionalism!

Sincerely,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Riffle

HISRA has had a tremendous impact on our entire family.  My daughters have participated in several different HISRA Special Olympics sporting events through which they have learned skills, formed friendships and increased their self-confidence.  When my daughters succeed I see their HISRA volunteers celebrate as if they themselves just crossed the finish line or bowled a strike.  There is a certain comfort and peace that comes with attending an event through HISRA because I know my daughters will be treated with respect, supported in a safe environment and valued for all that they can contribute to the group or team.  In addition to my daughters as HISRA participants, my sons have volunteered as coaches, which has helped them to more fully appreciate the potential, ability and value of ALL people.  It has also given my sons, who are in their early teen years, a group of role models and mentors in their fellow HISRA volunteers.  I am so grateful for the HISRA staff and volunteers who continue to make a difference in our lives each day.

After having my son participate in HISRA’s Summer Camp this past year for the first time, I kept asking myself, why hadn’t I signed him up years ago for this wonderful program?  The HISRA staff at camp is amazing!  Every day they were so upbeat and positive.  They truly care about all of the campers and are very respectful and kind to everyone.  Our son loves coming to camp and can’t wait for next summer!

Our son really enjoys HISRA’s social events.  He loves attending all of the dances and has made many new friends.

Our son, Brad, has participated in programs through HISRA for more than a decade and we are very grateful for the experiences and opportunities HISRA has provided.  From summer day camps when he was younger to dances, volunteering, and nights out with friends as an adult, Brad has always looked forward to HISRA events on his calendar. As parents, we are grateful for the engaged and personable HISRA staff and the variety of community-based options. We know that Special Recreation isn’t available everywhere and it is absolutely among the services for which we are most grateful. HISRA brings fun, new experiences, new people, and activity to Brad’s life. Thank you, HISRA!!

Volunteering at HISRA has been a life changing experience for me and one of the most rewarding things I have done. If I didn’t help out, I probably wouldn’t be the person I am today. I have met some many amazing people and I am looking forward to all the great times to come thank you for letting me be apart of this.
