Summer 2018 Employment Opportunities

Job Title: Art Instructor

  • Employment Dates: 5/29/18 – 8/4/18
  • Starting Hourly Wage: $10-$14/hr

Details:  Responsible for planning and implementing art therapy activities for small groups of campers and documenting sessions. Must have knowledge and/or training in Art Therapy as well as experience with individuals with disabilities. Individual should possess knowledge of art, special recreation, leisure skills and gross/fine motor skills.

Qualified instructors should be able to:

  • Knowledge of characteristics and needs of a broad range of disabilities and ages.
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate art therapy activities for individuals of all ages and various abilities.
  • Analyze participants’ current developmental status and target areas for potential growth with assistance from supervisors and other staff.

Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Specialist, the Art Instructor shall:

  • Provide art activities that are therapeutic and developmentally appropriate for individual participants.
  • Develop a variety of experiences that will allow participants to excise their own creativity and imagination.
  • Develop and implement activities that are fun as well as therapeutic, and which significantly upgrade participants’ skill, ability levels, and functional independence.
  • Acquire all needed supplies/materials through the Program Supervisor and be responsible or their care and return upon the completion of the program.
  • Assume responsibility for knowledge of and following/enforcing all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and will support all aspects of the HISRA safety program.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and seasonal orientation sessions.
  • Communicate with Program Manager, Camp Specialist, Counselors Leaders, and Aides on the individual needs of the participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Details:  Responsible for planning and implementing gym/fitness activities for small groups of campers and documenting sessions. Must have knowledge and/or training in Adapted P.E. as well as experience with individuals with disabilities.

Qualified instructors should be able to:

  • Knowledge of characteristics and needs of a broad range of disabilities and ages.
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate gym/exercise activities for individuals of all ages and various abilities.
  • Analyze participants’ current developmental status and target areas for potential growth with assistance from supervisors and other staff.
  • Follow Special Olympics P.E. curriculum

Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Specialist, the Gym Instructor shall:

  • Provide gym activities that are therapeutic and developmentally appropriate for individual participants.
  • Develop a variety of experiences that will target different muscle groups and areas of the body.
  • Develop and implement activities that are fun as well as therapeutic, and which significantly upgrade participants’ skill, ability levels, and functional independence.
  • Acquire all needed supplies/materials through the Program Supervisor and be responsible for their care and return upon the completion of the program.
  • Assume responsibility for knowledge of and following/enforcing all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and will support all aspects of the HISRA safety program.

Details:  The Music/Drama Instructor is responsible for planning and implementing music/drama activities for groups of campers with varying disabilities.  Individuals should possess knowledge of music and drama along with the skills to teach individuals with varying disabilities.

Qualified instructors should be able to:

  • Establish excellent rapport with participants and co-workers. Must be creative, enthusiastic, patient, and trustworthy.
  • Plan and implement music/drama activities for individuals of all ages and various abilities.
  • Modify and adapt activities and equipment to satisfy the needs of participants.
  • Analyze participants’ current developmental status and target areas for potential growth.
  • Manage individuals with special needs in order to insure inclusion and safety of all participants.
  • Possess the physical ability to setup for and actively participate in music/drama activities.

Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Specialist, the Music/Drama Instructor shall:

Job Title: Camp Group Leader

  • Starting Hourly Rate: $10-$14

Details:  Responsible for leading a camper group in every aspect including, delegating responsibility, planning, direct leadership and evaluation of campers and staff. Required to assist the campers in daily activities and with personal care. Must have knowledge and/or training in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Special Education, Adapted Physical Education or related fields and/or equivalent experience. Minimum age 18.

Qualified instructors should be able to:

  • Establish excellent rapport with participants and co-workers. Must be creative, enthusiastic, patient, and trustworthy.
  • Plan and implement various activities for individuals of all ages and various abilities.
  • Modify and adapt activities and equipment to satisfy the needs of participants.
  • Analyze participants’ current developmental status and target areas for potential growth.
  • Manage individuals with special needs in order to insure inclusion and safety of all participants.
  • Possess the physical ability to setup for and actively participate in all activities.

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Specialist, the Camp Counselor Leader shall:

  • Develop a session-to-session program agenda utilizing proper lesson plan format.
  • Assess ability level of all campers in your group and plan activities accordingly
  • Implement activities that are fun as well as therapeutic, educational, and which significantly upgrade the participants’ skill, ability levels, and functional independence.
  • Administer medication throughout the day according to Medication Dispensing Forms.
  • Be responsible for the safety of all participants during duration of camp.
  • Develop a variety of experiences that will allow participants to exercise their own creativity and imagination.
  • Acquire all needed supplies/materials through the Camp Specialist and be responsible for their care and return upon the completion of the activity.
  • Assume responsibility for knowledge of and following/enforcing all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and will support all aspects of the HISRA safety program.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and seasonal orientation sessions.
  • Drive and operate lift vans for programs and camps as assigned.

Job Title: Camp Aide/Inclusion Aide

  • Employment Dates: 5/29/18 – 8/4/18
  • Starting Hourly Wage: $8.25-$10/hr

Details:  Camp Aides will be working as an assistant counselor to the Camp Leaders at Camp Free to Be. Inclusion aides will work within HISRA’s member districts (Peoria, Morton, Chillicothe & Washington). As an inclusion aide you are responsible for the facilitation of the inclusion process by providing any assistance the individual may need to be successful in the program. Inclusion programs include but are not limited to swim lessons, t-ball, soccer, day camps, and playground groups.

Qualified aides should be able to:

  • (Camp Aide) Responsible for assisting the Camp Counselor Leader in the implementation and supervision of the planned outings, personal care, supervision and behavior management of participants.
  • (Camp Aide & Inclusion Aide) Establish excellent rapport with participants and co-workers. Must be creative, enthusiastic, patient, and trustworthy.
  • (Camp Aide & Inclusion Aide) Modify and adapt activities and equipment to satisfy the needs of participants.
  • (Camp Aide & Inclusion Aide) Manage individuals with special needs in order to insure inclusion and safety of all participants.
  • (Camp Aide & Inclusion Aide) Possess the physical ability to setup for and actively participate in all activities.

  • Be responsible for the safety of all participants during duration of camp.
  • Assume responsibility for knowledge of and following/enforcing all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and will support all aspects of the HISRA safety program.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and seasonal orientation sessions.
  • Ensure that participants are included in all activities based on ability level.
